"Colors are the smiles of nature."

Leigh Hunt

Color the Tree is a California-based design studio, located in the beautiful coastal town of Encinitas, founded by graphic designer, illustrator and textile designer, Abdiel De Leon.  With a degree in Fine Arts, Abdiel's designs are contemporary with a strong illustrative feel .  Using a combination of both traditional and digital techniques, he designs colorful, fresh and modern illustrations, as well as bold and graphic patterns.

Inspired by nature's wildlife, patterns, colors, textures and shapes.  In my first series, I wanted to illustrate the unity of a herd of Zebras and of a colony of male Emperor Penguins in Antarctica.  The other series was born out of my love of the African wildlife that thrives there.

"Animals come from nature.  They were not designed.  All my inspiration comes from nature, whether it's an animal or the layout of bark or of a leaf.  Sometimes my patterns are very bold, you can barely see where they come from, but all the textures and all the prints come out of nature."

Diane von Furstenberg
